Often, the data that you have isn’t in the format that you need. This tutorial will show you how to transform your data to fit the visualization that you want to make.

We downloaded the Social Security Administration Baby Names dataset and we did some data manipulation in Tableau by using “IF/THEN” statements, string manipulation, and boolean questions.

We created a chart to investigate the transtion of names in gender over the years.

We made a visualization to investigate the percentage distribution of six interesting names.

We created a word cloud to visualize the dominant female first letters.
